Margaret Hitchcock Cup Competition 2021
SCRAPBOOK RECORDING THE EFFECTS OF COVID-19
The Margaret Hitchcock Cup for 2021 is for a scrapbook recording how the Covid-19 pandemic affected your WI.
In the past few years, many WIs have been going to their archived material as part of their Centenary Celebrations. Some have looked at how major events in our country’s history have been marked by their WIs and communities. This is why we feel it is important to put together a record of how we all coped in these totally alien times. This record can then be stored so that hopefully in years to come future generations of members will be able to look back on this event.
Members are invited to make a scrapbook of how the pandemic has affected their WI. It can be any size and can be bought or made from what you have around. It should record how your WI and members have kept in touch and how your WI have been involved with the communities you live in. Amongst other things it might contain pictures, poems, tickets from cancelled events, stories and articles from members. Include how you started to resume meeting again and all the precautions which needed to be taken.
We hope that every WI will make their own Scrapbook and if you wish to enter it for the Margaret Hitchcock Cup it will be judged on the criteria in No.4 below.
We have consulted with the Suffolk Archives Office and attached are guidance notes from them which will provide a valuable source of information and suggestions for materials to use for the best storage of your scrapbook.
