Details about us
Sudbury Sunflowers WI was formed in early 2017. The first name was Sudbury QH WI, the QH stood for Quaker Hall where the meetings were held in Friars Street, Sudbury. After a few months, we outgrew the premises and decided to move to the Scout Hall in Quay Lane, Sudbury where we stayed for 3 years. The hall was large but rather cold so we have now moved to The Jetty, just across the road in Quay Lane with the added bonus of having a large car park, suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
We now have access to private parking for Quay and Jetty users only directly in front of the Quay Theatre. If you decide to park there when you enter the WI there is a keypad where you enter your vehicle registration number which allows free parking. It has proved very successful.
In 2022 we made the decision to change our name and following a very successful Sunflower making craft session for the forthcoming Christmas Tree Festival the new name decided on was Sudbury Sudbury Sunflowers WI.
We have 38 members at present and we pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming WI. Being a morning WI is an added bonus for some members who prefer not to go out in the evenings. Sudbury also has an evening WI, Sudbury Gainsborough WI for those who work or prefer evenings.
We are part of the Gainsborough Group of Suffolk West Federation of WIs. The other members in our group are Sudbury Gainsborough as mentioned above, Glemsford Afternoon & Evening WIs, Long Melford WI and Polstead WI.
We meet on the 3rd Monday of the month from 10.30am-12.30pm. Our other activities include a monthly lunch club at varied venues, a weekly darts club, alongside trips and visits to various places of interest and of course events held by Suffolk West Federation of WIs of which we are proud to be part of. Something for everyone.
If you feel we are a WI you would like to join please drop into a meeting or for further information contact our Secretary, email sudburysunflowerswi@gmail.com
