More About Us

Hello and welcome to Stanton WI

Stanton WI is one of the oldest groups in West Suffolk and one of the most active, with a range of activities during the year.

We hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in Stanton Village Hall. Our meetings include speakers on a variety of subjects, which range from current issues such as the pollution of our local beaches to speakers from local charities. Some speakers talk about their lives or careers and some come to entertain us with music. During the summer months we make a daytime visit, perhaps to a garden, the theatre or places of interest.

There are regular outings for lunch and coffee, which give us a chance to  catch up with each other's news. There are several outings during the year, most recently to Peter Beales Rose Garden, for a guided tour on a beautiful summer's day.

The WI reinstated the Stanton Cafe each Thursday morning in the Church rooms. This provides a reasonably priced, bottomless cup of tea or coffee, along with cakes and savouries and gives our regular visitors a warm place to sit and chat and meet up with friends. The cafe operates on a rota basis with WI members and other volunteers, so you never know what goodies we will have on offer! As well as being a service for the village, the cafe is a fundraising venture and we have  sent donations to St Nicholas Hospice, SARS, the Salvation Army, and the Bury Women's refuge, among others.

We have a variety of workshops, most recently two flower arranging classes which were taught by President Maureen and committee member Jackie. Of course, there was coffee and cake too!  We are planning new things all the time so if you have ideas please get in touch. If you'd like to know more do contact one of the committee.

The WI is non-sectarian and non-party political and is actively involved in the social, environmental and consumer issues of the day. The subject for discussion this year is the pollution of Britain's rivers.

We are a lively, friendly group of ladies - all ages, shapes & sizes.  It's an ideal environment to catch up with friends and make new ones. If you think you might like to join us, take a look at our Programme page to find out what's on. Visitors and guests are always welcome so why not come along and give us a try.
