MORE ABOUT US
Welcome to Horringer & Ickworth WI web pages. We are a large WI with approximately 31 members, a mixed group of different ages and interests, but we all have one thing in common, we are all members of Horringer & Ickworth WI and part of Suffolk West Federation. We are a friendly bunch who look forward to meeting up once a month (and often, in between) to attend local or Federation Events). 2018 marked our 100th Birthday and we are proud to be one of the oldest WIs in Suffolk West Federation (see below some extracts from past Records, and see how things have changed). New members both young and the more mature are all welcome.
For further details contact one of the ladies on our Committee (see contacts below), or Federation Office 01284 336645 office.swfwi@gmail.com or, just come along, we will be pleased to meet you (only a few members make jam and we only sing Jerusalem at our AGM and special meetings!

Horringer & Ickworth WI 100 Years Old
Horringer & Ickworth WI was formed on 5th April 1918. The first Meeting was held in the Horringer Rectory where Lady Bristol became President and remained President for twenty five years. Meetings were held either at Ickworth House or in the Rectory and most members were the wives of workers on the Estate or who worked in the house.
Meetings were held in the early evening so that the servants could return to the house to serve dinner, and it was not until the 1960's when the President had young children that the meeting time was moved to 7.30pm.
When the Suffolk West Federation was formed in 1920 Lady Bristol was elected as Chairman of the Federation.
